Belmont, MA

Belmont, Massachusetts, incorporated in 1859, is known as “The Town of Homes” thanks to its many elegant residences and leafy, residential character. Early settlers arrived in the 1630s as part of Watertown, and the area became a separate town as suburbs expanded in the 19th century with the arrival of railroad lines linking it to Boston. Noteworthy landmarks include the Homer House, a grand Italianate 1853 mansion built by William Flagg Homer; the Abraham Hill House, one of Belmont’s oldest colonial houses; and the Pleasant Street Historic District which features its impressive Town Hall and various period homes. Natural gems include Beaver Brook Reservation, over 300 acres of woodlands, trails, waterfalls and wetlands, as well as Clay Pit Pond, created where clay was once mined and later flooded to become a popular pond with walking paths.
